Key thought leader, Dr. Paul Billings, to speak at the 6th Annual Personalized & Precision Medicine Conference

The 6th Annual Personalized & Precision Medicine Conference is pleased to announce that Dr. Paul Billings, Chief Medical Officer at Omicia, Scientific Advisory Board member of the FDA, member of the Genomic Medicine Advisory Committee at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs, and the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine’s Roundtable on Genomics has joined the speaking faculty for the 2014 conference to be held on October 29 & 30, 2014 in San Francisco, CA.

The 6th Annual Personalized & Precision Medicine Conference brings together multiple stakeholders, including payers, molecular diagnostics companies, genome analysis/interpretation companies, clinicians and many others in order to provide attendees with a holistic view of the personalized medicine landscape. The conference will examine the components integral to driving personalized medicine into the future, including: the ethical social and legal aspects of personalized medicine, clinical utility and the development of genomic medicine programs, and data usage and transformation into actionable clinical guidance as well as payer evaluation and the alignment of labs, clinicians and payers.

Dr. Billings research focuses on ethics and medicine. His focus is on the impact of genetic information and biotechnology on society, the integration of genomics into healthcare, post-genomic health and identity, molecular biology and immunogenetics, their relationship to cellular differentiation, and their application in cancer care, and human stem cell research and its relationship to clinical medicine. Dr. Billings' research on genetic discrimination provided academic support for the Genetic Information Non-discrimination Act. He has received research grants for his work from various organizations, including National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the Council for Responsible Genetics

Dr. Billings was Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of General Medicine at the Palo Alto VA Healthcare System and Stanford Medical School, and CMO and Deputy Network Director of VISN 17 in the Department of Veterans Affairs. He has been Professor of Anthropology (adjunct) at UC Berkeley and has published extensively on topics in immunology, genetics and medicine. Dr. Billings received an A.B. summa cum laude from UC San Diego, and both his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University.
